Garry M. Gordon
Bishop Gary Gordon became the fifth Roman Catholic Bishop of the Diocese of Whitehorse in March 2006. He was succeeded by Bishop Hector Villa in February 2016.1) Bishop Gordon also served as a Bishop of Canada and was called to serve in other ministries. He often spent his weekends visiting the smaller Yukon communities. He brought in other priests to try and fill the gaps in service. His work in prisons received recognition and admiration from religious and secular leaders. He was interested in using diocesan land for low-income housing. He spent 2014 as the pastor of Sacred Heart parish in Whitehorse, offering weekend masses and confession more often than ever before. He was a bishop who believed in working at the local church level. He moved on to a new posting in Victoria, British Columbia in July 2014.2)
