Gilles “Red” Grossinger (d. 2024)

Red Grossinger served with the Canadian Armed Forces for thirty years. He was in West Germany with NATO from 1962 to December 1965 and then returned to Germany from 1968 to 1970 as an Anti-Tank Missile Detachment Commander. He served in Cyprus twice with the United Nations, first in 1968/70 and again in 1977. He served as a UN Observer in Israel, Lebanon, Syria, and Egypt before retiring to Whitehorse in 1987. Comrade Red Grossinger was a long-time member of the Whitehorse Legion.1)

Grossinger started investigating sasquatch reports in 1997 after having an encounter with one while fly fishing on the Takhini River. He joined sasquatch clubs in Alberta and British Columbia as his interest grew. His research is published in his 2022 book, Nahganne Tales of the Northern Sasquatch. Red is quoted as saying “The human mind plays tricks on us. If there’s something we don’t immediately recognize, then our mind will try to cover that with something we know.”2)

Red was a dedicated advocate for Yukon veterans and his work earned him the Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee Medal and the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers. He was an annual volunteer t the Whitehorse Canada Day events.3)
