William D. Gordon (1880 - 1950)

W. D. Gordon was born in the Ottawa area. Gordon joined the British Yukon Navigation Co. as a warehouse man in Atlin in 1904. In 1905, he was hired as a stenographer in the Whitehorse office and in 1906 he was appointed as chief clerk. About 1913, he was appointed Superintendent of the River Division and he retired in 1947. Gordon's wife was a nurse who came to work in the first Whitehorse hospital. He and his wife had three boys who grew up in Whitehorse and were educated in a private school in Victoria. After Gordon's retirement, the youngest boy, William, took over the job as River Superintendent for a short time and then joined the Vancouver staff of Canadian Pacific Airlines.1) William Gordon was inducted into the Yukon Transportation Hall of Fame in 1997 as a Transportation Pioneer.
