Annie Henry, nee Mitchell (1904 - 2005)
Annie Henry was born at Black City on the upper Blackstone River to Ester, a Gwich’in woman from the Peel River country. Her stepmother was Nellie, and her father was Jarvis Mitchel or Old Michelle from the Mackenzie River country. Annie was raised in the upper Blackstone, Ogilvie, and Wind River areas. Annie and Joe Henry were married on 15 July 1921, and they raised children Percy, Henry, Isaac, Victor, William (Waldo), Peter, Ida, Edna, Mary, Fanny, Margaret, Eileen, and Thibetha.1) Annie was an accomplished seamstress and her beaded moccasins and mukluks, made with home-tanned hide, were in high demand.
