Annie Helen Henry, nee Kodwat (1932 – 2018)

Annie henry was born near Copper Mountain and the Takhini River to parents Louise Smith and Jimmy Kodwat of Klukwan, Alaska. She was Crow clan of the Southern Tutchone and Coast Tlingit. Annie was raised at Dalton Post with four brothers and one sister and was taught to live off the land. When her father died she was raised by Mrs. Pringle in Haines Junction. She attended the Baptist residential school for a few years and then lived with her mother in Whitehorse. When she was old enough, she went to work as a waitress with Liz Wilson in Watson Lake. She met Chis Henry when he was driving trucks and they married and had seven children. They lived and raised their children at Johnson’s Crossing.1)

Annie was a religious woman, a good sewer and very hard worker. She worked at Yukon Native Products and for Jean Jamison. She taught Southern Tutchone at Whitehorse Elementary and Christ the King schools. She was respected Elder and a strong leader.2)
