Catherine Hines

Cathy Hines, a past director of the Dawson City Museum and a long-time teacher in Dawson and Whitehorse, began working on the Klondike Gold resource book and educational kit around 1991. The idea began as a teachers’ resource for the Dawson City Museum’s gold rush travelling exhibit that toured in Canada and the United States. There was an opportunity to further develop the kit and take it into the schools. Ellen Johnson, a fellow teacher at Hack Holland School, joined the project in 1994 and the Klondike Gold resource book was published by the Yukon Department of Education in 1995. Cathy and Ellen received a national award for the book and kit from the Hilroy Fellowship Program.1)
