William Raymond Hulbert (1844 – 1910)

William Hulbert was born in England and was at one time a wealthy resident of London. He lost his property in a business deal to bring mutton in cold storage from Australia to London. His wife died several years before 1910 and several grown children stayed in that city. One daughter lived near Victoria, British Columbia and a son lived in Seattle. Hulbert came to Whitehorse in 1903 and became the gardener for the British Yukon Navigation Co. The company gardens were below the company stables.¹⁾
