William “Windy Bill” Hutchison (b. 1889)
William Hutchison was born in Scotland.1) He came north in 1898 and was a member of the Yukon Order of Pioneers in 1915.2) Windy Bill Hutchison was a ship's carpenter and came to the Yukon before WWI to worked at the British Yukon Navigation shipyard. He also mined in the Whitehorse Copper Belt and in Dawson working on the dredges and other placer operations. He was a well-known storyteller although his stories often had no point.3) Hutchison was working at the Grafter Mine and as a ship builder in Whitehorse in October 1916 when he enlisted for service in the First World War.4)
