Daniel Janke

Daniel Janke is a musician, recording engineer and composer based in Whitehorse. He has composed music for concert, theatre, film and dance. He is an accomplished pianist whose style is informed by gospel, contemporary and world music traditions.1) He directed the film Subconscious Password for the National Film Board and it was short-listed for a 2014 Oscar Award in animation. The Grubstake Remix toured Canada and was presented at the Babylon Theatre in Berlin, Germany. Janke has recorded with numerous artists and his 1995 release In A Room was critically acclaimed. His short film How People Got Fire received numerous awards and was screened internationally.2) The animated film is based on the stories told by Elder Kitty Smith. It was a cross-cultural and cross-disciplinary collaboration.3) Janke is a member of Winter Trio featuring himself on piano, Paul Bergman on bass, and Ken Searcy on drums.4)
