Harry Johannes (1912 – 1990)

Harry Johannes was born and raised in Marsden, Saskatchewan and farmed there until joining the Royal Canadian Air Force to serve in the Second World War. He moved to the Yukon after the war and ran the first bowling alley in Whitehorse. He prospected and was a partner in General Enterprise, a company involved in many road construction projects in Alaska, Yukon, and northern British Columbia. Harry was a member of the Yukon Order of Pioneers, the Yukon Prospectors Association, the Elks Lodge, the Masonic Lodge, and was a president of the Yukon Fish and Game Association. In 1989, Harry Johannes was inducted into the Yukon Prospector’s Hall of Fame. He retired to Sidney, British Columbia in 1987.1)
