Joseph Joseph

Joe Joseph described his family tree: Old Susie Joseph (1860-1925) married Selina (b. 1861). They had children Joe Susie Joseph (1905-1985) and Martha Joseph (b. 1912). Joe Susie Joseph was one of two Charley Village men that married two Hän sisters from Moosehide. Joe Susie Joseph marred Susan Elsie Simon [father Long Simon] (1912 - 1992) and they had children Angie, Virginia, Joe, [and Danny].1)Joe Susie and Susan raised eight children. 2)

Joe Joseph was one of the Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in land claims negotiators. In the summer of 1997, he made an extended trip from Dawson ,Yukon to Eagle Village, Alaska to enrol individuals and families for land claims. Anyone with at least one Canadian Hän ancestor was entitled to share in the settlement. The enrolment effort helped bring the Hän nation back together and gave people a common heritage through kinship. This included most of the Junebys, all of the Davids, and all of the Pauls.3)
