Al Klassen (b. 1959)
Al Klassen moved to Whitehorse in 1986. In the early 1990s, he started working for Kelly Hougen and Arctic Red at his fly-in big-game hunting concession. The closest community, Norman Wells, was 150km away. Klassen guided for Hougen for ten years and then purchased the business. He had guided hunters on a total of 124 hunts up to the spring of 2022. In January of that year, his success and his personal approach to guiding clients were recognized at the annual award show in Reno, Nevada. Klassen was awarded the outstanding guide award from the Wild Sheep Foundation and a testimonial mentioned the hope that one day his 40-plus years as one of the finest guides in the mountains would be acknowledged.1)
