Norma Kassi
Norma Kassi was born in Old Crow. She served two terms in the Yukon legislature from 1985 to 1992. She became an international spokesperson for her Gwich’in people, opposing development in the fragile calving grounds of the Porcupine Caribou Herd in the Alaskan Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. In 2002, she and two others received the Goldman Environmental Prize for North America.1)
