Alice Marie Laursen, nee Martin (1942 – 2010)
Alice Martin was born in Dawson and raised by her grandparents, the late Reverend Richard Martin and Mary Martin (Tichi) in Moosehide. At age twenty, she was crowned the first Yukon Sourdough Queen. She later donated part of her regalia to the Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in archives in Dawson. She and Ron Laursen were married around 1962. Alice lived in Whitehorse and then moved to Fort St. John from 1968 to 1980, Prince George from 1980 to 2001, and finally Penticton from 2001 to 2010. She travelled back to Dawson every other summer to visit with relatives and friends and especially looked forward to the Moosehide Gatherings. Alice Marie Laursen died in Penticton, British Columbia with Ron, her husband of 38 years, by her side.1)
