Kim Lee
Kim was a Chinese. He cooked at the United Keno Hill Bellekeno Camp on Sourdough Hill in the early 1950s. He developed a hatred of the numerous gophers in camp and tried to persuade the mine manager, Brodie Hicks, to give him some cyanide. Failing this, he befriended the gophers and used table scraps to get them close enough to wring their necks. To the horror of the miners and management, he boasted about killing thirty-nine gophers in one afternoon. Brodie transferred Lee to a less pro-animal camp.1)
