Murray Lundberg

Murray Lundberg first came to the Yukon in 1985 when he purchased a small Cessna and did a tour of Yukon and NWT. In 1990, he quit his job in Langley and moved to Whitehorse where he worked as tour guide on bus routes to Skagway and Anchorage in Alaska and through the Yukon to Inuvik, NWT. He was intrigued by the history of Montana Mountain from the beginning and his much sought-after book Fractured Veins & Broken Dreams (1996) was the result of six years of research.1)

Lundberg has advocated for Yukon history and Yukoners for over forty years. He has accomplished this through photography, writing, tourism marketing, volunteering, digital projects, and dementia health outreach.2)

Murray is the author of three books on Yukon history plus a series of historical vignettes about sites along the South klondike Highway. He launched the website ExploreNorth in 1997 and it has become the touchstone for all those interested in Yukon history. His Yukon History and Abandoned Places Facebook group is an immensely popular and dynamic forum. He donated many of his photographs to the Yukon Archives. Murray Lundberg received the Yukon Historical and Museums Association Annual Heritage Award in 2018.3) He was inducted into the Order of Yukon in 2022.4)
