Richard Joseph “Joe” Lindsay (1928 – 2009)
Joseph Lindsay was born in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba. He was an underground miner from 1945 to 1963, working in major mines across Canada. He came to the Yukon in 1954 where he worked at Keno and was the crusher foreman for General Enterprises.1) Joe and Virginia Grace Slim were married in 1960 and they raised five children.2)
In the late 1960s, Lindsay and some partners listed two Yukon companies on the stock exchanges. Trans-Yukon Exploration Ltd. was listed on the Calgary stock exchange in 1967 and was the first Yukon company to go public. Joe was active with public companies until 1985. After retirement, he took up small-scale gold mining in Dawson.3)
