Charles Maye Mayekawa (1870 – 1916)

Charles Maye Mayekawa was born in Japan. He came to the Yukon watershed in 1894 and did not leave the Yukon after that. In 1916, he had a reputation as a first-class cook and was well-known throughout the Klondike. He left many friends who regretted his death. Funeral costs were paid by Arthur Yamaguchi and his pallbearers were G. Omura, Frank Oshitake, S Suzuki, Frank Murata, and S. Sakata. His grave in the Hillside Public Cemetery is a grey granite marker.1)
