Colin N. Mayes (b. 1948)

Colin Mayes was the mayor of Dawson between 12 December 1974 and 11 December 1975. He was Canada’s youngest mayor at the time.1)

Mayes left Dawson and was elected major of Salmon Arm, British Columbia before he was elected as a Conservative to the House of Commons for the riding of Okanagan-Shuswap (2006-2015). While he was in office, he caused a minor controversy by responding favourably to an e-mailed racist joke. He supported a private member’s bill, motion 312, to have Canada re-examine at what point human life begins.2)
