Colin N. Mayes (b. 1948)

Colin Mayes was the mayor of Dawson between 12 December 1974 and 11 December 1975. He was Canada’s youngest mayor at the time.¹⁾

Mayes left Dawson and was elected major of Salmon Arm, British Columbia before he was elected as a Conservative to the House of Commons for the riding of Okanagan-Shuswap (2006-2015). While he was in office, he caused a minor controversy by responding favourably to an e-mailed racist joke. He supported a private member’s bill, motion 312, to have Canada re-examine at what point human life begins.²⁾
