Hector Morrison (1856 - 1939)

Hector Morrison was born in Zorra, Ontario and came to the Yukon in 1894. He stampeded to Duncan Creek in the fall of 1901 and remained to prospect in the upper Stewart and Hess rivers. He was one of the original and successful stakers on Highet Creek. He returned to Duncan Creek in 1907 to mine. In 1911, he found a rich deposit on Gambler's Gulch. He named Rogue River and the Hungry Mountains south of Mayo. He worked for Middlecoff in 1917 and 1918.1)

In 1919, Morison went to work for the Guggenheims in Keno. In 1920, he staked the Lucky Queen and other claims. Keno Hill optioned the Lucky Queen and hired Morrison to work it and he got the claim back when Keno Hill Ltd. ceased operation. He was 75 when he sold his holdings to Treadwell Yukon in 1931. He married Grace Wier Mackay in Vancouver in 1931 and lived the rest of his life in comfort. He died in Vancouver in 1939.2)
