Lydia Massé (Sister Cécile de Jésus)

Lydia Massé (Sister Cécile de Jésus) was an American francophone from Rhode Island. In 1946, the Sisters of Providence sent four teachers from Montreal to Whitehorse under her direction. This was in response to a request from Bishop Coudert for teaching staff. Christ the King Convent opened its doors in 1947 at the corner of Fourth Avenue and Wood Street. Fifty-five teachers taught at the convent school before the Sisters of Providence left Whitehorse in 1981. Their work was taken over by the Halifax Sisters of Charity and the Association Koinonia of the Companions of Angela and Francis.1)
