Pearl Mitchell (1877 – 1900)
Pearl Mitchell was originally from Boston, Mass. In Dawson, she worked on stage at the Orpheum Theatre. There are conflicting stories in the Dawson newspapers about her death. One version is that she was shot at the Holborn Restaurant by Julia Solaw Manominee from Wisconsin, and another version said she was shot by James Slorah at the Green Tree Saloon. The funeral costs were paid by Hall for L. Wilson.1)
In the fall of 1900, James Slorah was arrested for shooting Pearl Mitchell, who he called his wife, at the Holburn Restaurant. Slorah was tried by Judge Dugas and a jury. The trail lasted five days and Slorah was convicted with a strong recommendation for mercy. He was sentenced to hang but the sentence was commuted to life imprisonment in January 1901.2)
