Patrick John Martin (1875 – 1918)

Patrick John Martin was born in St. Leonard, New Brunswick. He was a miner near Dawson when he enlisted to serve in the First World War in July 1916.1) He was owner of Fractional Creek Claim No. 51-A and Creek Claim No 52 both above Discovery on Henderson Creek.2) Martin was with the Yukon Infantry Company which became the 17th Canadian Machine Gun Company. He later joined the 102nd Battalion in the field. He was wounded in August 1918 but re-joined his battalion in September. He and forty-nine other soldiers were killed during an attack between Inchy-en-Artois and Bourlon Wood. Martin was awarded the British Military Medal and the Allied Victory Medal, and they were presented to a friend, John C. Lawrence of Stewart River, Yukon. Private Martin is buried in Annex British Cemetery in France.3)
