Richard Mostyn

Richard Mostyn arrived in the Yukon in 1989 and was a reporter for the Yukon News for twenty-two years. He was elected, as a Liberal representing Whitehorse West, to the Yukon Legislature in 2016 and was the minister of Yukon Workers’ Safety and Compensation Board, Highways and Public Works and the Public Services Commission. Mostyn worked for rural Yukoners and supported the construction of a new Dawson recreation centre, a new firehall and arena in Carmacks, the Darius Elias Community Centre in Old Crow, and a new gymnastics and climbing facility in Whitehorse. Mostyn faced criticism for the closure of some rural solid waster transfer stations and his lack of support for the renewal of Raven ReCentre’s recycling contract. A press release on 30 July 2025 announced that Mostyn will not be seeking re-election in the upcoming 2025 territorial election.1)
