Ulysses Grant Myers (1864 – 1918)

Ulysses Grant Myers was born in New York City and educated at William and Mary College in Virginia. He came to Dawson in 1898 and then moved to Eagle, Alaska where he joined the U.S. Weather Bureau. In 1904, he was appointed a commissioner and recorder and was admitted to the bar in 1905. He was the attorney for the Dome Mining Association. He eventually became the mayor and the coroner for Eagle and in the summer was the customs broker, meeting all the steamers from Dawson. He lived in Eagle, while his wife preferred to spend the winters in Poughkeepsie, New York. Meyers drowned when the Princess Sophia sank in the Lynn Canal. His only asset was a half interest in some Sunnydale, Washington farmland.1)
