John F. MacLennan (d. 1950)

J. F. MacLennan was born in Glengarry, Ontario. He was an officer with the North-West Mounted Police for some years before he qualified as a pharmacist. He was a well-respected druggist in Dawson and practiced his profession into his late seventies. He was over eighty when he passed away.1)

Lieutenant J. F. McLennan was recruited by Captain George Black for service in the First World War. He was in England in August 1917.2) A meeting was held in Dawson on 18 May 1927 to affiliate the War Veterans Dawson Club with the Canadian Legion. The first officers of the Dawson Branch No. 1 were John F. McLennan (Pres), A.A. Bigg (1st Vice), F. B. Johns (2nd Vice) and trustees Frank G. Berton and E. Harry Brasseur. Other members included: Pte. W.J. O’Brien, Sgt Maj William Aldcroft, Lt Andrew D. Cruikshank, Cpl John Bremner, Cpl David Forbes, Pte Fred E. Envoldsen, Pte F. C. Heath, Cpl F. Burt Johns, P.T.E. Ransome, Lt P. S. Creamer, Pte E.F. Carey, Maj A. B. Allard, Lt S. R. Tompkins and Pte George Leblond.3)
