Harold Arthur E. Newton (1891 - 1916)

Harold Arthur E. Newton was born in Nottingham, England. He served in the Officers’ Training Corp for three months before immigrating to Canada.1) He was employed in Whitehorse as a fur trader in 1914 when he enlisted to serve in the First World War.2)

Newton fought in several major battles in France and Belgium before he was killed in a 1916 bombardment at the St. Eloi craters. Lance Captain Newton was awarded the 1914-1915 Star, British Military Medal and Allied Victory Medal. His name is listed on the Menin Gate Memorial to the Missing in Ypres, Belgium.3)
