Harry Taylor Nixon (1927 – 2022)

Harry Nixon enlisted to fight in the Second World War at the age of seventeen. After the war, he attended business school and then joined the RCMP in 1950. He was briefly posted in Nova Scotia and then transferred to “C” Division in 1952. “The division encompassed Yukon and Northwest Territories including Nunavut. He met and married Hazel in 1955, and she travelled with him at his various posts throughout the territories.1)

In the 1960s and early 1970s, Harry Nixon was the Commanding Officer at Fort Smith, an area that included the lower McKenzie District, the Keewatin District, and part of the Franklin District. “C” Division was split in 1974, and the Yukon was designated as “M” Division. In 1983, Harry returned to the Yukon to become the Commanding Officer just before he retired. Harry Nixon was predeceased by Hazel in 2017.2)
