Peter Olafson
Peter Olafson and Charles Erickson were Scandinavians who came north about 1892. They were 27 and 30 years old and had been employed in the blacksmith shops of the Duluth and Iron Range Railroad at Two Harbours. They heard about the Alaska goldfields and went to seek their fortunes. They looked for three years in vain but in 1895 they found a rich placer bed on the Stewart River, and later located claims on the Klondike. They cleaned up $150,000 each and left the Yukon on the steamer Portland. They returned to Two Harbours after five years in the north.1)
