Frank Clarence Polley (d. 1919)

Frank Polley worked on the sternwheeler Canadian in the Yukon. After the First World War was declared, Polley travelled to England and joined the Royal Engineers. He was sent to the middle east with the Mesopotamia Expeditionary Force to operate a river boat ferrying troops, food, ammunition and supplies. He died of a fever. Captain Polley was awarded the British War Medal and the Allied Victory Medal. He is commemorated on the Baku Memorial in Azerbaijan. Polley Hill near the Northwest Territories border is named in his honour.1)
