John Peter Pochack (1889 – 1919)

John Pochack was born in Niskic, Montenegro. He enlisted to serve in the First World War and named his occupation as a miner in Anchorage.1) He was recruited by George Black for the Yukon Infantry Company.2) Pochack fought in France and Belgium with the Canadian Motor Machine Gun Brigade. He fell ill with tuberculosis in September 1919 and later died at the No 46 Stationary Hospital in France. Private Pochack was awarded the British War Medal and Allied Victory Medal. He is buried at the Étaples Military Cemetery in Pas de Calais, France.3)
