David Roulston (b. 1878)

David Roulston was five Years with the Royal North-West Mounted Police. He enlisted for service in the First World War in March 1915.1) He joined Boyle’s Yukon Battery, and won the Military Medal during the war.2)

After five to six days on the line, the Yukon Battery provided barrage support to the Canadian 10th Brigade over Grandcourt Trench. Under intense fire, the machine guns fired continuously for six hours and then provided covering fire through the night. Captain Meurling and the Yukon were decorated with Military Medals and several men, including Private David Roulston, were singled out for recognition.3)
