Joe Roberts (d. 1975)

Joe Roberts was born at Fort Selkirk. He lived for several years in the Aishihik and Burwash Landing areas and then returned to Selkirk with his wife Julia and family. He was a hunter and trapper and worked as a wood cutter for the Yukon River steamers. He took part in T.C. Richard’s cattle drive from Minto to Mayo. He and Julia moved to Pelly Crossing in the 1950s when Selkirk was all but abandoned after the Klondike Highway North was constructed. He and Julia had four daughters: Maria Van Bibber (Mayo), Betty Joe (Pelly), Annie Vance (Whitehorse) and Esther Blanchard (Carmacks).1)
