Spasge Raspopovich (1889 – 1917)
Spasge Raspopovich was born in Danilovgrad, Montenegro. He was in the Montenegran army for four months in 1907. He immigrated to Canada and became a miner in the Yukon. Raspopovich enlisted for service in the First World War in 1916 and went overseas with the Yukon Infantry Company. He was later transferred to the 102nd Battalion. He was wounded by shellfire and died in the No. 17 Casualty Clearing Station. Spasge Raspopovich was awarded the British War medal and Allied Victory Medal. He is buried in the Lijssenthock Military Cemetery in Belgium. Spasge had a brother, Bill, still living in Dawson.1)
