Raymond Fred Fugard (1954 - 2025)

Ray Fugard moved from Ontario to Dawson around 1985 and radio broadcasting at the local station station became his passion. He worked as a mechanic and spent time in Keno, Elsa and Mayo. Deteriorating vision caused Ray to move closer to medical services in Whitehorse. He became interested in amateur radio and got his VY1RF license in 2006. He was very active in the Yukon Amateur Radio Association (YARA) and was the club's network monitor. He helped with radio communications during the Klondike Road Relay, Kluane Chilkat International Bike Relay, the MS Walks in Whitehorse and various government exercises in emergency preparedness. In 2017, Ray moved to Teslin, a community he loved, and added a passion for communicating on the truckers' LADD channels.((“Raymond Fred Fugard (VY1RF) aka Radio Ray.” Yukon News, 5 February 2025.)
