A. W. H. “Andy” Smith
A.W.H. Smith was the bookkeeper for the Barringtons’ company Side Stream Navigation Co. established in 1909.1) In 1910, Smith was the secretary-treasurer and promoter of Dr. W.E. Thompson’s Dublin Hydraulics Company.2) A full-page ad appeared in the Dawson Daily News Christmas edition. Preferred shares could be purchased for $2.50 each by contacting Smith at the office of mining broker and fiscal agent T. A. Firth in Dawson. No actual mining took place on the concession for several years.3)
Smith enlisted in the First World War in 1914. He was in the Canadian Railroad Troops No. 10, part of the Canadian Expeditionary Force, and he fought overseas. He was wounded twice and after he returned he followed the Barringtons when they left the Yukon to work out of Wrangell, Alaska.4)
