Donald Edmund Sawatsky (1938 – 1997)

Don Sawatsky was a journalist and writer living in Whitehorse. He started his career as a full-time copy boy at the Calgary Herold and then moved to the Kamloops Sentinel and the Nelson News in British Columbia. In 1965, he moved to the Yukon where he became a free-lance journalist. In 1975, Don published Ghost Towns Trails of the Yukon only to find it republished under another author’s name [in 1977]. It took ten years of court battle to win his case and get his manuscript, minus the photographs, returned. In 1994, it was reprinted under his name in the Yukon as Ghost Towns and Trails of the Yukon.1)
