Douglas Fearon Steele (1940 – 2008)
Doug Steele was born in Atlin, the oldest son of Frank and Evelyn Steele. He spent his youth in highway lodges in Swift River and Watson Lake and at a wood camp on Fish Lake just outside of Whitehorse. The family settled permanently in Whitehorse in 1957. Doug spent many years with Whitehorse's 551 Air Cadet Squadron, progressing from a warrant officer to commanding officer through 1988. Doug was a key player in the evolution of the Mountainview golf course. He was member of the executive and quite literally built the first nine holes. Doug was an enthusiastic curler and golfer.1)
