Gilbert Skelly (1876 – 1952)
Gilbert Skelly came to the Yukon in 1898. He settled in Dawson and prospected in the area before moving to Whitehorse and then Carcross.1)
In 1904, Sam McGee and Gilbert Skelly were running a roadhouse at Canyon [Creek] River on the Kluane trail to Bullion and Ruby creeks. They built a bridge across the river for travel during high water.2)
In 1943, Skelly was living in Carcross in the winter and spending the summer prospecting in the hills. Gordon and Joyce Yardley rented his cabin for the summer and Joyce described it as little more than walls, a bed, a table and a cookstove, with a ladder leading up to a loft.3) Gilbert Kelly was living in Carcross when he became ill and came to the Whitehorse hospital where he died.4)
