Ike L. Seavers

Ike Seavers moved to Whitehorse in 1911. He was also known as the Caterpillar Kid, probably in reference to the tracked vehicles starting to be used in the Yukon after the First World War.1)

Seavers left Whitehorse in October 1920 to take the launch Sibilla to Mayo with a load of explosives. Running ice and low water made the trip a very difficult and dangerous one. One the return trip, Ike was met by C.W. Cash [superintendent of the Royal Mail service] and F.E. Harbottle at Yukon Crossing and brought into town by automobile. Seavers arrived back in Whitehorse in mid-November.2) The Whitehorse newspaper thought that 1920 had the most severe weather and low water conditions ever experienced in the north. Many of the WP&YR boats could not get to their regular winter quarters.3)

Ike Severs left the Yukon in January 1921 with the intention of moving to San Francisco to join his brother in automotive repair.4)
