John N. Spence

John Spence operated one of the largest retail stores in Dawson for thirty-five years and was thought to be the largest individual grocer in Canada before he sold his business to the Northern Commercial Co. Ltd. in 1938.1)

In March 1929, a promising quartz showing was reported from the Lone Star Mining Company Ltd. mine near Dawson and 50,000 shares were quickly sold for twenty-five cents each. J.N. Spence, Joseph Gadona, T.A. Firth, and E.H. Searle were directors in the company.2)
