John Streicker

John Streicker was elected in 2016 to the Yukon legislature as a Liberal Party MLA representing Mount Lorne-Southern Lakes. He served in multiple cabinet roles and as government house leader. In 2025, he held ministerial portfolios for Tourism, the French Language Services Directorate, the Yukon Development Corporation and the Yukon Energy Corporation. Over his years in office he had to deal with the government's emergency response to COVID-19 and being targeted by someone using spray paint on his property. He led the government response to the heap leach failure at Victoria Gold Corp.’s Eagle Gold Mine in June 2024. He championed projects related to sports infrastructure and a new convention centre, legalizing cannabis, renewable energy, as well as modernizing mining legislation and land-use planning. In September, Streicker announced that he will not be running in the upcoming election that must take place on or before November 3, 2025.1)
