Joseph W. Smith
Joseph W. Smith discovered gold on Bullion Creek in September 1903. He and his friends Frank Altemose, Fred Ater, and Morley Bones took out forty ounces of coarse gold in a few hours but never again found so rich a pocket. This discovery started a stampede to the area.1)
