Michael G. Stutter (b. 1931)
Mike Stutter was born in Alesford, England. He immigrated to Canada in 1948 and gained employment with Yukon Consolidated Gold Corp (YCGC) at the North Fork Power Plant. He met Ben Warnsby there and they became friends and business partners.1) They operated the Brainstorm Freighting Services from 1961 to 1974. Their riverboat, the Brain Storm, carried goods and supplies to Old Crow along the 700 miles of the Yukon and Porcupine rivers. There were two owners of the boat before them, but they were the ones who made it into a business. Mike Stutter and Ben Warnsby were inducted into the Yukon Transportation Hall of Fame in 2015.2)
Warnsby and Stutter were partners in a number of enterprises over the years. In 1970, they formed Miben Mining Company and mined on Dago Hill on Hunker Creek for the next twenty-five years.3)
In 1970, Stutter ran for political office in the Yukon election and won over Tony Penikett and Fabien Salois in the Dawson riding.4) In 1972, he replaced Don Taylor on the Yukon Financial Advisory Committee.5) Stutter did not run in 1974. Between 1986 and 1995, he served on the Environmental Impact Review Board (EIRB). The Board conducts impact reviews for proposed developments in the Inuvialuit Settlement Region.6)
