Nels Skistad (d. 1959)

Nels Skistad came from Norway to participate in the Klondike gold rush. He met his future wife, Kristen Alice Eriskson, in Seattle. She was a seamstress and recently emigrated from Sweden. Nels mined on Sulphur Creek before buying a roadhouse where the old road to Dawson crossed Hunker Creek. The Arlington Roadhouse had rooms and served food and liquor to travellers. Nels and Alice had three children, Dorothy, Emma, and Emily.1) The Skistad family held dances and parties in the 1930, ‘40s and early 1950s. Alice Skistad died of a stroke in 1945 after being confined for several years at St. Mary's Hospital in Dawson. Nels Skistad moved into Dawson to a small cabin and died in 1959. The Arlington was sold to the Harry MacDonells and it burned during their occupation.2)
