Olive Storey, nee Galbraith (1927 – 2018)

Olive Galbraith was born in a small town in Saskatchewan and grew up during the depression. She and John Storey married in 1949. He worked for the Department of Environment, and they were posted to Fort Nelson, Coppermine (Kugluktuk, Nunavut) and Port Hardy before they settled in Whitehorse in 1959.1)

In 1972, Olive founded the Yukon crisis line. She worked at the ambulance offices and on the Line of Life machine. She was an advocate for senior citizen's rights and worked to obtain affordable and adequate housing. In 1994, she was named a Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary Club in Whitehorse.2) Olive Storey received the Yukon Commissioners Award in 2000 for her public service.3)
