Stuart Schmidt
Stuart Schmidt grew up in a Yukon placer mining family with parents Marion and Harold Schmidt. His mine in the Indian River Valley has recovered piles of ice age fossils over the years. In 2017, he won an award for recovering a rare helmeted muskox skull with horns estimated to be 25,000 years old. The Yukon Government award was presented for Schmidt’s career-long support for paleontologists and their colleagues.1) Stuart Schmidt has been a long-time member, director, and past president, of the Klondike Placer Miners Association.
