Charles Towl

Charles Towl and his partner crossed the Chilkat Pass in the spring of 1901 and started prospecting the Kluane Lake region. They staked a claim on Mush Creek, probably drawn by stories about Adair and the “Mysterious 36” who prospected on Shorty Creek. Mush referred to their diet of oatmeal porridge. Their discovery sparked a stampede from nearby Porcupine Creek. Charles Towl and his partner did not get rich, and the details of their lives are lost from the record.1)
