Elaine Taylor (b. 1967)

Elaine Taylor was born in Watson Lake and earned a BA in political science from the University of Alberta. Taylor was a researcher and constituency caseworker for the Yukon party caucus and worked as a visitor receptionist in the Yukon Department of Tourism. She was executive assistant to John Ostashek, leader of the Yukon Party and premier, before his defeat in the 1996 election. Taylor was first elected to the Yukon Legislative Assembly in 2002 and was re-elected in 2006 and 2011. She represented the Whitehorse West electoral district. Elaine Taylor was a former Deputy Premier of the Yukon and, at the time of election defeat, in 2016, she was the longest continuously serving Cabinet minister in Canada.1)
