Joseph Tilton (1867-1917)

Joseph Tilton was born near Tilsonburg, Ontario to parents Samuel and Caroline Tilton. He came north in 1900 and worked as a teamster in Dawson.1) Before the war he was living at Moosehide, downriver from Dawson. Private Tilton was killed in action at Passchendaele Ridge on October 30, 1917.2) His name is listed on the Menin Gate Memorial to the Missing in Ypres, Belgium.3) Tilton was one of nine Yukoners killed on the same day at Passchendaele. He was posthumously awarded the British War Medal and Allied Victory Medal.4)
